San Diego Loves its Umbrellas

by Roberta Murphy

We keep a couple of colorful umbrellas in the hall closet and have a golf umbrella or two in our La Costa garage. Just in case.

Umbrella for your Carlsbad Home

But the favorite umbrella for our Carlsbad home is the one on our patio.

For sure, there will be a few days in the months ahead when we’ll need to duck under cover of  portable umbrellas–and we’ll be very grateful for the protection.

But the umbrella that gets the most use in our home is the one on our back patio. We dine under that umbrella, read and relax under its protection and enjoy its splash of color from the kitchen window.

Of course, it needs to be unfurled and secured when winds and rain kick in–and colors eventually fade with our San Diego sun. But each or every other Spring, I go buy a new one in whatever color suits me that season. Green worked for a couple of years, then red and more recently, a lovely persimmon color.

An outdoor umbrella is a common suggestion we also make to our Carlsbad real estate sellers when they want to create at least an illusion of outdoor relaxation.  And we encourage them to leave it OPEN as much as possible!

One of the reasons most of us living in San Diego love life here is that we can spend so much time–year round–outdoors in arguably the best climate in the world. And a colorful unfurled outdoor umbrella invites outdoor relaxation.
