El Nino is hitting La Costa and Carlsbad hard, but I’m not aware of any real flooding or landslides–yet.
I had a meeting this morning in Vista and managed to get most errands completed by noon, when the rains started. Mid-day, it became torrential, with pounding on the roof and lots of loud thunder.
It was wonderful!
So what can you do to prepare for this season’s El Nino storms that are expected to hit San Diego hard? A few quick tips:
- Make sure gutters and drains are clean and that nothing is blocking water’s flow to the street or into free-flowing drains.
- A full tank of gas in the car is probably a good idea–as is a stock of candles and batteries for flashlights, etcetera.
- Hopefully you’ve put out sandbags, if needed, to redirect water and mud away from your home.
- Sign up for Alert San Diego to stay on top of area emergencies.
After the thunder and lightning subsided, the rain came down even harder and I decided to take a little walk to see how La Costa Avenue was faring with El Nino. Fortunately had my camera and was able to upload a short video to YouTube–which can be seen below:
