La Costa Jockey Club Surprise

Jockey Club Sign

I was showing one of the La Costa Jockey Club units last Sunday and dropped my jaw when I saw this sign by the pool.

Clients were also surprised and we naturally assumed someone had done a dirty deed in the water and that precipitated the Jockey Club HOA to post this sign. Of course, we also wondered why this couldn’t have been handled in a more discreet manner.

I decided to research the legality (if not the poor taste) of this sign and was shocked to discover that this comes as a result of a new  Nanny Law in California, otherwise known as DPH-03-017A Public Pools which states:

 (d)  Pool operators shall post a sign in letters at least 1 inch (25 mm) high and in a language or diagram that is clearly stated at the entrance area of a public pool or where clearly visible to pool users, which states that persons having currently active diarrhea or who have had active diarrhea within the previous 14 days shall not be allowed to enter the pool water. *

In reading through this lengthy new law, it appears condo and homeowner associations are now burdened with additional verbiage that must be posted around all pools within their control–including, of course, the diarrhea signs.

Just for fun, you might want to browse around California Department of Public Health’s website.
