Early this morning I hiked up to the new La Costa Town Square and instead of heading into the 24-Hour Fitness as I had planned, kept walking over to the new La Costa Vons where I could browse without an impatient hubby in tow.
What a fun way to play hooky from my morning workout at the gym– and taking a break from La Costa real estate!
Bell Peppers on DisplayBilled as a “concept store” by the leasing agent a year ago, I expected a large display of organic produce at this Vons–and was not disappointed. The display of peppers (see photos) was one of many beautiful displays. But it is the variety of foods that amazed me most.
I had recently ordered raw organic buckwheat online from Amazon, assuming this was the Russian manna about which Maria Yegorova (youngest son Mark’s lovely girlfriend) raves. Nyet, said she, it must be roasted and can be found in Russian grocery stores.
Imagine my surprise when I found not only raw organic buckwhat groats, but a big bin full of organic roasted ones as well. I immediately texted Maria to let her know they were now available locally and at the very fair price of $1.99 per pound.
I departed with the big makings for chimichurri, one sweet lemon, fresh organic kale and a carton of eggs from chickens that were free to peck around in the barnyard–and toted them all home (leg and arm muscles at work).
Prior explorations show that we in La Costa and surrounding neighborhoods are in for some fun and business in the new La Costa Town Square. There are banks, a big Stein Mart, restaurants, beauty salon/spa, barber shop, a large Petco, dry cleaners, nail salon and so much more coming soon. In the meantime, there are workouts to be done at the 24-Hour Super Sport Fitness center–and some fun shopping at both Vons and Stein Mart.–Roberta Murphy
